New hotspot: Léon in Shelter Island

With owner Valerie Mnuchin’s paternal grandfather as its namesake, the newly opened Shelter Island restaurant, Léon 1909, is an inviting homage to the past that attracts both island neighbors and long-time visitors.

With an affinity for romantic coastal adventures, the restaurant features a Provençal-style menu that nods to rustic European cuisine, showcasing high-season regional ingredients from both land and sea.

Among the various options, the salads and appetizers with raw scallops, buttermilk, pepita, and lime lead into a showcase of artisanal pastas, as well as hot dishes like sea bass with spicy peperonata, Picholine olives, and lemon, and grilled loin served with a generous portion of herb-crusted potatoes.

For those who won’t give up a good wine, the wine list is rooted primarily in Old World regions while reflecting selected contemporary producers, and is complemented by a variety of other beverages, including beer, signature cocktails and bar classics, and non-alcoholic options.

Open Thursday through Monday, the venue looks forward to welcoming Shelter Island and Hamptons residents; to taste the wonders offered by Léon, be sure not to forget making a reservation.
