Bed Trunks Louis Vuitton combine tradition and modernity with originality

Portable beds coveted by the brand’s lovers surprise generations with style, comfort and pampering

Louis Vuitton, which since 1854 has delighted with the art of savoir-faire, reinvents a curious classic that, to the unaware, appears as a stylish trunk and, to brand insiders, holds the promise of a delicious night’s sleep by magic. Just open the Bed Trunk – patented in 1855 by Georges, Louis’s son – and a stylish bed will be ready for the unparalleled pleasure of sleeping well anywhere. The new versions, already on sale and on display in Paris, foster dialogues between past collections and dreams for the future. The women’s model is designed by Nicolas Ghesquière, creative director of the women’s line. The men’s Bed Trunk is the work of Pharrell Williams: rapper, songwriter, producer, and artistic director of the men’s collections.

These trunks hold rare treasures. Ghesquière opted for a futuristic tone on the exterior with metal structures and the monogram pattern that, from afar, confirms it’s an LV. The piece’s inspiration came from the Cruise 2023 collection. Upon opening the chest, florals like those on a jacket from the Spring-Summer 2018 collection are revealed. In Williams’s design, the contrast lies in the interior with an original twist of white and red stripes, as well as exclusive “LV Lovers” embroidery on the mattress and pillow. On the outside, the stripes are in shades of brown, recalling the canvas from the 1872 collection.

Of course, comfort and extra indulgences are part of this coveted piece among maison enthusiasts. In the 2024 versions, the original promise takes shape in a comfortable bed with a folding frame, topped by a first-class soft mattress. To complete it, a must-have treat for those who only fall asleep after a good read: a beech wood bedside table.

The pieces are on display for invited guests in Paris, with Nicolas Ghesquière’s version available for viewing from September 20 to October 6 at the Louis Vuitton store in Saint-Germain-des-Prés, while Pharrell Williams’s creation is featured from September 21 to October 4 at the Savoir Rêver Louis Vuitton event at the Hôtel Cheval Blanc. The Bed Trunks can also be ordered online.
