If you’ve heard of the Hamptons — whether from TV series, movies, or even a visit to New York — you know this name carries a very special charm. For those who grew up in the United States, mentioning “The Hamptons” evokes a collection of elegant beaches, charming villages, and an impressive variety of restaurants and destinations.
I’ve always seen the Hamptons as the perfect getaway for New Yorkers seeking tranquility, a counterpoint to urban intensity. It reminds me a lot of the European concept of summer homes, where families escaped harsh winters in search of a lighter, more nature-connected life.
This charming coastal region has a milder, more pleasant climate than humid Florida and has served as the setting for iconic productions, like Revenge (2011), a contemporary classic that perfectly captured the lifestyle of some local families.
Visiting the Hamptons is embarking on a unique summer experience — walking the streets alongside some of the most influential figures in film, music, and politics, who have also chosen this stretch of coastline to call home. And it is with that spirit that I share this special guide with you.
The activity here reaches its peak between Memorial Day (May 30) and Labor Day (September 5). This long, narrow coastline is home to different communities, each with its own particular charm. Here are a few of my favorites:
Southampton: A true postcard town, with charming streets and historic homes passed down through generations. It’s where you feel the weight of American architectural tradition. Areas like Sagaponack and Watermill are part of this sophisticated world.
Sag Harbor: For those who, like me, appreciate the charm of coastal villages, Sag Harbor is an invitation to contemplation. With a fishing soul and the energy of a New England small town, it’s ideal for those who prefer good cuisine and peaceful strolls to the beach.
West Hampton: Young, vibrant, and full of houses shared by groups of friends, West Hampton breathes innovation and entrepreneurial spirit. It’s where you find a relaxed, contagious vibe.
Montauk: A paradise for surfers and nightlife lovers, Montauk is synonymous with freedom and freshness. The energy here is electric — perfect for those who want to enjoy summer in high style.
If there’s one thing I love to do in the Hamptons, it’s discovering incredible spots to eat and drink. Some say nothing beats the Crab Salad at Clam Bar in Amagansett — yes, sometimes the line stretches over three hours, but every minute is worth it.
Meanwhile, Tutto Il Giorno in Southampton is almost an extension of my home. The food is impeccable and the location, a true gift.
In our Lifestyle Mag curation, other spots deserve recognition:
Pierre’s (Bridgehampton): Traditional fare, wonderful wines, and warm service. Ideal for a leisurely summer lunch.
The Surf Lodge (Montauk): Conceptualized by Jayma Cardoso, a visionary Brazilian. The menu, with local and organic ingredients, is a dream.
Sant Ambroeus (Southampton): A direct trip to Italy, with an unforgettable veal panini and the best mint chip gelato on the coast.
Sag Pizza (Sag Harbor): Artisan pizzas and a retro atmosphere that takes me back in time — and makes me want to stay forever.
There’s no shortage of wonderful options here. But a good hotel concierge can also surprise you with the perfect tip for the evening.
When I choose a hotel in the Hamptons, I look for more than just location — I want a place that helps me connect with the region’s spirit. My favorites:
Surf Lodge (Montauk): Inspired by the local culture, it’s modern, cool, and serves the freshest seafood every day.
Bridgehampton Inn: It looks like it came straight out of Downton Abbey. Charming, cozy, and with its own restaurant full of delights.
EHP Resort & Marina: A slice of the Mediterranean in the heart of Long Island. It’s calm, elegant, and perfect for slowing down.
Topping Rose House (Bridgehampton): A fully renovated 19th-century mansion with menus crafted by Jean-Georges.
Baron’s Cove (Sag Harbor): It has its own marina and an atmosphere reminiscent of 1950s summers.
Gurney’s: Seaside, it’s the only hotel in the region with direct beachfront access.
Hero Beach Club (Montauk): Exactly the vibe of artists, surfers, and creatives. Vintage, with a sea view and a free spirit.
Journey East Hampton: More secluded, it’s located near mansions owned by names like De Niro, Gaga, and Spielberg.
Marram: A sophisticated boutique resort focused on unforgettable experiences.
Sunset Beach (Shelter Island): Conceptualized by Andre Balazs, the same visionary behind Chateau Marmont. The sunset here is cinematic.
The Maidstone: Eclectic, cool, and just steps from the beach. One of my summer favorites.
Every time I come to the Hamptons, I make a list of my favorite hotspots. Here are a few places I love to visit:
Goop: Gwyneth Paltrow’s shop breathes style. It has everything from wellness to clothing and jewelry.
Matriark: Founded by Brazilian Patricia Assui Reed, it features women-led brands and has an amazing curation.
Ralph Lauren: The local store has an indoor garden that’s a true oasis.
Love Adorned: Specializing in long-lasting dried flowers. A paradise for design lovers.
Hildreth’s: A classic! Home goods, candles, décor — you’ll want to take everything home.
Aerin: Created by Aerin Lauder, it’s the perfect example of a refined lifestyle brand.
Ornare: Custom furnishings with sophisticated design and a Brazilian soul.
And of course, when it comes to drinks, I recommend two places I love: Le Bilboquet, perfect for watching the sea with a cocktail in hand, and Crow’s Nest in Montauk — lively, with great drinks and a vibrant atmosphere.
The Hamptons have had a historic aura since the Gilded Age at the end of the 19th century. The region has always drawn attention for its unique charm and continues to delight to this day.
Want a unique experience? Visit the Wölffer Estate Vineyard. Since 1988, the vineyard has offered wine tastings amid a landscape reminiscent of Tuscany. Simply unmissable.
